Are You Interested in Joining the Birss Research Group?

We are seeking motivated individuals who are interested in joining our efforts as graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to work in the clean energy conversion/storage, water and CO2 splitting, nanomaterials, and electrochemical biosensing areas.

Support and Network

All students and learners in the Birss group work on an independent research project but with direct supervision from Dr. Birss as well as the assistance from many experienced graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Students also have the opportunity to work in a highly open and friendly environment, often in collaboration with other teams on campus, and teams from around the world, both in academia and industry.

Advanced Tech

The Birss group is very well-funded and has access to cutting-edge instrumentation, including advanced electrochemical instrumentation, as well as XRD, TGA, gas sorption techniques, quartz crystal microbalance, AFM/STM, SEM, state-of-the-art XPS and TEM, and much more.

Calgary is the third largest cosmopolitan city in Canada and houses a wide variety of entertainment, cuisine, and recreational options. Calgary a one hour minute drive to the Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park, which are superb for sightseeing and outdoor activities
